Laura’s House is pleased to be a beneficiary of the HopeLine® from Verizon phone recycling program! Through HopeLine, Verizon is putting its wireless network to work in the community by turning no-longer-used wireless phones and accessories into support for survivors of domestic violence.

Proceeds from the HopeLine from Verizon program are used to provide wireless phones and airtime to victims of domestic violence, and cash grants to local shelters and non-profit organizations like Laura’s House, that focus on domestic violence prevention, awareness and advocacy.

Overlooking the Golf Course at Big Canyon Country Club in Newport Beach, 100 guests were treated to culinary delights and tastings of more than 30 wines from wine-growing regions throughout California

Ladera Ranch, Calif., June 15, 2012Laura’s House, a nonprofit whose mission is to change the social beliefs, attitudes and behaviors that perpetuate domestic violence, while creating a safe place in which to empower individuals and families affected by abuse, today announced that it raised $15,000 at its 1st Annual Wine & Dine event, held on Saturday, June 9 at Big Canyon Country Club in Newport Beach.

During the 1st Annual Wine & Dine event, guests who began arriving at the event at 6:00 p.m. dressed in “summer chic” attire, were treated to an array of gourmet delights as they mingled with other guests, perused the silent auction Wine Wall, tasted wine selections from more than 30 wineries situated throughout California’s wine growing regions, and received expert advice on choosing wines from Master Sommelier Steve Poe, of Big Canyon Country Club.

“We are very excited that our first annual ‘Wine & Dine’ event was such a great success, and we are thankful to the more than 100 guests who joined us for a beautiful evening in Newport Beach,” said Margaret Bayston, CEO and Executive Director, Laura’s House. “The event helped us raise the much needed funds we need to support the programs and services for families who are impacted by domestic violence, while shining a light on this issue that affects so many individuals throughout the Orange County community.”

The event also featured Syrah and Chardonnay varietals from Giracci Vineyards and Farms, located in Silverado Canyon.

Among the items featured on the gourmet menu for the 1st Annual Wine & Dine event were a selection of passed hors d’oeuvres including braised cocktail meatballs with Manchego cheese, pine nuts and spicy tomato sauce, and truffle and goat cheese beignets. Stationed menu items included imported and domestic cheese display with charcuteries, dried cranberries, peaches and walnuts; panzanella salad; asparagus, mushroom, parmesan and Italian sausage risotto; smoked scallop sliders with lime, arugula, greens and citrus aioli; open-faced prosciutto and Jarlsberg “Sandwich” with Granny Smith apples and watercress on rustic bread; goat cheese stuffed peppadew peppers with chimichurri sauce; Mexican bay shrimp cocktail with avocado and lime in an Asian spoon.

The silent auction included wine tastings and tour experiences for Giracci Vineyards & Farms, Newport Beach Vineyards & Winery and AmByth Estate; a Wine Dinner at Canaletto Newport Beach; and, a Wine Wall including more than 100 bottles of wine from the Napa Valley, Sonoma Coast, Paso Robles and other wine growing regions around the world.

Proceeds from the 1st Annual Wine & Dine event will be used support the programs and services that Laura’s House provides to families that are impacted by domestic violence throughout Orange County and beyond.

Adriane Nada, a Domestic Violence Clinical Educator, partnered with Matt Gregory of South Coast Dancesport to compete in the ballroom dance competition that drew 200 guests

LADERA RANCH, Calif., June 6, 2012Laura’s House, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to change the social beliefs, attitudes and behaviors that perpetuate domestic violence, while creating a safe place in which to empower individuals and families affected by abuse, today announced that it netted $6,000 during the 2nd Annual “Dancing for a Cause” event, sponsored by the San Clemente Sunrise Rotary.

Based on the hit TV show, “Dancing with the Stars,” the event took place on Friday, May 18 at The Hills Hotel in Laguna Hills, and drew 200 guests to watch and cheer for participants from six beneficiary organizations. Each of the participants were paired with a professional dance partner from South Coast Dancesport. Adriane Nada, a Domestic Violence Clinical Educator for Laura’s House, took to dance floor with Matt Gregory, to compete for monetary prizes and the coveted “Top Dancer” trophy.

“It was a pleasure to represent Laura’s House in ‘Dancing for a Cause’ this year,” said Nada. “We are grateful to the San Clemente Sunrise Rotary and San Clemente Rotary Clubs for hosting the event, and we will use the funds we raised to support the counseling, community outreach and shelter programs that we provide to individuals and families that are impacted by domestic violence here in Orange County and beyond.”

In addition to the dance competition, the 2nd annual “Dancing for a Cause” event also featured a cocktail reception, silent and live auctions, dinner and dancing.

Other beneficiaries for “Dancing for a Cause” included South Coast Boys & Girls Club; San Clemente Kiwanis; San Clemente Rotary; San Clemente Sunrise Rotary; and, Women’s Cancer Research Foundation

LADERA RANCH, Calif., May 14, 2012Laura’s House today announced that it has expanded its board of directors to include three new members from the Orange County business community. Joining are Jay Jaffin, Vice President, Marketing and Sales Operations for Verizon Wireless; Helen Timpe, Senior Vice President, Wealth Advisor, The Timpe Group at Morgan Stanley Smith Barney; and, Matt West, Senior Vice President, the Orange County office of 1st Enterprise Bank.

Based in Ladera Ranch, Laura’s House is a non-profit organization whose mission is to change the social beliefs, attitudes and behaviors that perpetuate domestic violence, while creating a safe place in which to empower individuals and families affected by abuse.

“We are delighted to welcome Jay, Helen and Matt to our board of directors, and pleased that they have chosen to support Laura’s House and our ongoing efforts to end the silence of domestic violence here in Orange County,” said Margaret Bayston, CEO and Executive Director, Laura’s House. “Each of these individuals brings with them a unique set of talents. We look forward to leveraging these talents as we continue grow our organization and expand the programs and services we offer for individuals and families who are rebuilding lives that are free of violence.”

About the New Board Members Jay Jaffin serves as Vice President of Marketing and Sales Operations for Verizon Wireless, where he manages the company’s marketing and operations for the 13 western states. His responsibilities include marketing communications, CRM and product management, retail and indirect sales operations, training, and the Telesales and Continuity Marketing Organizations. Prior to his current assignment, Jay served as Executive Director, Customer Relationship Marketing in the company’s headquarters organization where he led Verizon’s efforts to retain and grow its customer base, while laying the foundation for the company’s CRM strategy and vision. Prior to that, he held a number of leadership positions in both sales and marketing.  Jay joined Verizon Wireless in 2003 and brought with him more than seven years of experience in a variety of marketing, sales, strategy, and management roles.  Outside of work, Jay enjoys spending time with his family, helping to coach soccer on the weekends, and serving at a local food pantry. Jay earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of California at Berkeley.

Helen Timpe serves as Senior Vice President, Wealth Advisor with The Timpe Group at Morgan Stanley Smith Barney, a position she has held for 11 years, working alongside her daughter and partner, MSSB Vice President Monica Timpe-Godfrey. For more than three decades, Helen has been helping families, professionals and businesses protect and grow their wealth. During her career, she has served as a Wealth Advisor, Portfolio Manager and Certified Financial Planner. Helen was recognized as one of the leading local wealth advisors and financial planners in the “Five Star: Best in Client Satisfaction, Wealth Manager” survey conducted by the Orange County Register in March 2009. Helen is also best known for her ongoing commitment to educating and empowering her clients. For this reason, The Timpe Group was recently featured in Forbes magazine’s May 2010 issue for their expertise as wealth advisors and portfolio managers and also for their quarterly market perspective and strategy sessions, referred to as “Round Table Discussions.” Helen is actively involved in giving back to her community through charitable affiliations, such as United Way’s Tocqueville Society and Women’s Philanthropy Fund of Orange County. She is also proud of her volunteer teaching experience in Malawi, Africa, from 1964 to 1967. Helen holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Iowa State University, professional credentials including Certified Financial Planner that she earned while studying at University of Southern California; and an Executive MBA from the Wharton School of Business.

Matt West is Senior Vice President with the Orange County office of 1st Enterprise Bank, located in Irvine. He is a founding shareholder, and was a key member of the initial business development team that helped to successfully launch the bank. Sine 1988, he has worked in both the financial services industry and the commercial banking industry. Prior to joining 1st Enterprise Bank in 2006, Matt served as the Executive Vice President in charge of the Commercial Banking Group within Orange County-based CommerceWest Bank. He was a founding member of the bank’s senior management team in 2001, and played an integral role in the initial public offering campaign that capitalized the bank. Matt began his banking career with 1st Interstate Bank and has held various senior positions within other banking organizations over the past 20+ years including Citibank and California Bank & Trust.

The Laura’s House Board of Directors is comprised of a diverse group of 15 uniquely talented individuals who represent a wide cross-section of the Orange County business community.
